Pattaya’s Election Commission warned candidates in Sunday’s mayoral and city council election against personal attacks, noting candidates must approve disclosure of any personal information.

Commission attorney Thummanoon Hinkhum said national election laws forbid disclosure of personal information not already in the public domain unless a candidate has signed release documents. This prohibition also applies to the commission itself, he noted.

“The EC cannot reveal or disclose personal information of candidates unless it is of utter necessity,” he said.

The EC’s job, Thummanoon said, is to make sure the June 17 elections are fair, open and proceed without dispute or lawsuit.
