A drunk scavenger died when he went swimming and drowned in a Jomtien Beach canal.

Identified only as “Sua,” the junk collector told a group of men drinking near the waterway off Thepprasit Soi 7 that he was hot and needed a swim to cool off. Visibly intoxicated, the man stripped down and dived in, never to reemerge.

Sawang Boriboon rescue divers searched the canal and, after two hours, found the body in about 10 meters of water.
