Throngsiri Jumpol, an investigator with the Bangkok agency, spoke to teachers, housewives and village chiefs on consumer scams and the CPB’s efforts to battle them at Pattaya City Hall July 30.
Throngsiri Jumpol, an investigator with the National Consumer Protection Board, talks about consumer rights.
She said the board has received many complaints about false advertising, fraudulent service contracts and dangerous products, some of which have resulted in injury or death. Throngsiri said many businesses rely on the fact Thai consumers place too much trust in advertising or do not investigate a company before doing business with them.
The investigator urged attendees not to believe false advertising and to evaluate products and companies before purchasing. She also warned against direct sales and encouraged them to look for safety certifications and trademarks.
Throngsiri said anyone needing to report a consumer complaint can contact the Pattaya Call Center at 1337 or the mayor’s office at 038-253-111.
