Conservationists, hotel staffers clean Nok Yang Canal

Pattaya officials and the Naklua Bay Conservation Group joined forces to clean up the Nok Yang Canal area to raise awareness about the need to conserve the community’s natural resources.

Deputy Mayor Wutisak Rermkitkarn and city council members Vichet Nongyai and Morakot Noohuang joined the conservationists and employees from area hotels Jan. 14 at the Chao Por Si Nin shrine park.

Volunteers, including the staffers from the Garden Sea View Resort, Long Beach Garden Hotel and Spa, and A-One Royal Cruise, cleaned out garbage, leaves, broken branches and other obstructions to water flow.

Such activities are aimed at reviving the ecosystem of mangrove forests and beautifying the landscape that is gradually deteriorating. Officials urged residents not to litter in the canal. More cleanups are planned monthly through May.
