Collectors flock to Buddhist amulet show

A Buddhist amulet preservation show raised almost 3 million baht in charity as collectors flocked to the Pattaya Indoor Sports Arena for evaluations and prizes.

Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome and Numchaichana Deewee, president of the Eastern Thai Buddha Image Admiration Association, opened the two-day show on Soi Chaiyapruek 2 Oct. 27.

The event allowed amulet and image owners to obtain certification of their items for the 300 baht entry fee. In addition, they can enter their items into a contest to be judged. Items were photographed and certificates issued were set to be issued within 45 days.

The exhibition featured 55 tables where judges evaluated amulets and images and 1,912 categories to compete in. Grand prizes included a 1995 Provost Kasem Khaemko amulet from Trailak Cemetary in Lampang, LCD television and book on Provost Toa of Wat Khaokradon in Rayong, a value of 2,500 baht.

Winners in all categories will received trophies from the Pattaya mayor including silver image of Phra Kring.
