Authorities were called to the street undergoing heavy construction around 9 a.m. Nov. 4. Pipe was being laid in a trench three meters deep and two meters wide.

At the bottom was a 6-month-old calf. Officers and residents pulled back a drainage cover, then tied a harness around the animal to pull it to safety with a crane.

Somkeng Khotrat, 23, the crane operator, said he was the first to hear the cries of the calf, which he believes belongs to a local resident.

After tying a harness around it, workers were able to extract this calf from an underground drainage canal. After tying a harness around it, workers were able to extract this calf from an underground drainage canal.
