A British driver is in custody after hitting a Thai motorcyclist while allegedly speeding in Plutaluang.

Dominic Nardone, 37, was taken into custody Feb. 6 at the 157-kilometer marker on Sukhumvit Road. The broken body of 45-year-old Maleejan Chasi-nguan laid nearby. She was placed in intensive care at Queen Sirikit Medical Hospital and was in a coma.

Police said Nardone admitted he had been speeding to get back to Pattaya when, while overtaking another car, he was looking in the rear-view mirror and did not see the motorbike ahead of him.

Update: The woman survived and left the hospital 2 days after the accident.
