An American man suffered knife wounds after being slashed by a “jealous” Thai man in Pattaya.

Stephen Bazell Lapides, 47, suffered serious cuts to his arms in the July 5 incident near the Wanphen Apartments behind Lued Moo Sri-Pattaya restaurant.

Lapides refused to open the door for police for 30 minutes, thinking they were more attackers. Police said he eventually explained he’d just returned from Udon Thani, where he owns a home. When he arrived in Pattaya, a Thai man began calling him names and harassing him.

Lapides believed the man was jealous and came at him with a knife. The American took refuge in an unnumbered room in the small soi.
