An elderly Swiss man died of a suspected suicide, slashing his ankles, wrists and throat to end suffering from a number of diseases.

The body of Pierre Georges Glauser, 69, was found in the bathroom of his Khao Maikaew home by his 35-year-old wife Wassana around 4 p.m. Nov. 24. He was wearing only adult diapers.

Wassana told police she had been outside changing a tire on their car when her husband, having just returned from the hospital, went into the restroom and did not come out. A suicide note and bottle of alcohol was found next to the body.

Wassana told police they had been married for six years and had a 5-year-old daughter together. But Glauser was very ill and had just come from the hospital where doctors had tried to admit him for a lung infection.

Believing he was going to die anyway, Glauser told doctors he’d rather die at home, his wife recalled. Against doctors orders he left and went home to do apparently just that.
