Vice Adm. Rungsak Saereesawad opened the Nov. 26 event on the island best known as a breeding ground for endangered sea turtles. Taking part were workers from nearby Vinithai Co., IRPC Co., Glow Group, and Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production Co., as well as university students and scuba divers.
Navy sailors join up to 300 people to help clean up the shores and plant coral around Koh Khram.
Event leader Capt. Chumnan Phuangphet said the FNA’s campaign is aimed at raising environmental awareness. Participants laid new coral buds, cleaned the beach and did other landscaping to beautify the island.
Rungsak said that, apart from defending the country, the FNA’s mission is to protect the marine environment as it is the source of food, labor, tourism and transportation for the country.
