30 poor Pattaya students receive scholarships

The Friendship for Love Club awarded 60,000 baht in scholarships to poor students with strong grades.

Club President Khosit Kaewtrairat handed out the 30 2,000-baht stipends at Pattaya City Hall Dec. 21. The scholarships were given to children from poor backgrounds who maintained a minimum 3.5 grade point average at 10 of the city’s 11 public schools.

Khosit said three scholarships were awarded per school and said he hopes the support will encourage and inspire the children.  It was the 9th time the club has donated scholarships.

Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh, guest of honor at the presentation, extolled the virtues of a good education, especially for those from less fortunate families, as education is a key ingredient it breaking the poverty cycle.  He also announced plans to include more English language teaching in schools in order to be ready for the upcoming ASEAN Economic Community.
