More than 130 sailors learned skills they can use after serving in the military as the Royal Thai Navy opened its latest job-training workshop.

Vice Adm. Jirawat Sermrittirong, deputy director of career development, opened the Jan. 17 course for 83 conscripts.

Executives from the Rayong Skill Development Center, Chonburi Institute for Skill Development 3 and Thai Shipowners Association offered four general technician courses to 83 recruits and two classes on ship operations to another 50.

Jeerawat said the courses are part of the navy’s strategy to prepare its conscripts for careers after leaving the service.
