1,000 release thousands of marine animals for King’s birthday in Sattahip

The Royal Thai Navy and about 1,000 military, government and private-sector representatives released thousands of marine animals into the sea to commemorate HM the King’s 87th birthday.

Navy executive officer Adm. Navin Thonnet and Rear Adm. Jongkol Meesawat of the Air & Coastal Defense Command presided over the Dec. 2 event.

They released endangered Hawksbill sea turtles named Kalyakorn, 12, and Amornrat, 8, who were bred in the nursery until they were healthy.

The crowd also set free 899 baby tortoises and thousands more juvenile sea turtles into the sea.

Navin noted the mass animal release takes place each year to express loyalty and dedication to His Majesty for his Dec. 5 birthday.
