The Chonburi Red Cross urged a new generation to begin giving blood as the organization marked World Blood Donor Day.

Red Cross Chairwoman Nittaya Eimcharoen presided over the June 14 ceremony at Chonburi provincial hall to commemorate the birthday of the late Dr. Karl Landsteiner, the Austrian biologist who won the Nobel Prize for Medicine for discovery of the four major blood groups.

This year, the global theme of World Blood Donor Day is “Blood connects us all”, highlighting the common bond that all people share in their blood. The slogan, “Share life, give blood”, draws attention to the role that voluntary donation systems play in encouraging people to care for one another and promoting community cohesion.

Thailand adopted its own slogan this year, “New blood for the world” with the goal of bringing a new generation of donors into the pool.

Nittaya said blood collection is one of the most important tasks of Thai Red Cross Society. Blood donation campaigns should be continued constantly to encourage people to willingly donate blood with no expectation in return.
