The unnamed 20-year-old Thai male driver and his 18-year-old girlfriend were both found dead in the cab of the Isuzu pickup after the 3:40 a.m. crash on a soi next to Nong Yai Temple. Five passengers in the back were injured.
Police discovered a bag of crystal methamphetamines in the truck. Officers speculated that the driver panicked after he saw the police checkpoint set up to look for drugs and weapons, then ran through the barricade and lost control of the vehicle.
