Facebook, the anti-social media

Dear Hillary,

Has there been a change in the way Thai women think?  I was here 10 years ago and all the women were polite, couldn’t do enough for you, always wanting to “take care” of you, even to putting your socks on in the morning.  Now it looks as if all they want to do is photograph themselves with their mobile phones and send text messages to their girlfriends.  That’s when they’re not stuck in front of a computer screen posting pictures of themselves on Facebook.  The ‘old’ Thai girls were delightful - the ‘new’ Thai girls are boring.

Any comments on this, Hillary?

Barry

Dear Barry,

What you have just discovered, my Petal, is that all of life is change.  Little by little over time, these changes occur.  It is only when you have been away for a period of time, like 10 years, that you see a big jump in the way society acts, not just Thai ladies.  I’m afraid you will not change things, so you are stuck with looking for 40 years old Thai women, who are not into Facebook, or go looking for an alternative culture on some desert island where mobile phone coverage has not reached.  Best of luck Barry.
