‘Pattaya in Love’ on Valentine’s Day

The “Pattaya in Love” display has been up for weeks on Beach Road, but romance truly blossomed on Valentine’s Day as locals lined up to get married, and others just absorbed the spirit of the holiday. Pattaya, a popular scuba diving destination, saw nuptials exchanged under water at Underwater World. Many tourists served as witnesses as several couples entered into matrimony among the fish.

The “Pattaya in Love” display has been up for weeks on Beach Road, but romance truly blossomed on Valentine’s Day as locals lined up to get married above and below sea level.

The city was decorated in red, showing signs of love and romance pretty much everywhere. Major shopping malls like Central Festival Pattaya Beach embraced the theme, offering love booths for people to take photos in. The “forest of love” was a great location for couples on honeymoons since many hotels were offering accommodation packages and romantic dinners.

More than 200 couples used the day to sanctify their love.

Barry Henry Humphris, 40, a businessman from England; and 41-year-old Rungnapa Roipradit were the first to be registered as newlyweds at the Banglamung District office early Feb. 14. In all, about 100 couples would tie the knot on the most romantic day of the year in Pattaya.

There was plenty of romantic places to hang out on Valentines’ Day in Pattaya, including listening to street music.

Other sweet activities took place at Nong Nooch Tropical Garden where 99 couples exchanged vows on the backs of elephants. Two pachyderms decided to join as well, with Baithoey, 12, and Maimuang, 18, being “wedded” and destined to produce little elephants for the park. Maimuang showed his love for Baithoey by drawing a red heart with his trunk.
