BANGKOK, 19 August 2013 The Ministry of Commerce confirms the political turmoil in Egypt will not affect Thai exports much although the overall export growth is slowing down.

Permanent Secretary for Commerce Watchari Wimuktayon said the Thai-Egyptian trade might not feel the effects of political violence in Egypt since Thailand’s exports to the country were not high. The trade between the two countries would resume its normal condition once the unrest had been solved, Ms Watchari said.

Regarding the global economic slowdown, the permanent secretary admitted that it had affected the export sector and all sides were trying their best to promote Thai exports through various channels, especially exports to ASEAN, China and new markets.
