Travelers paid 8% less on hotel prices in Thailand

According to 2015 Hotel Price Index from Hotels.com

* Hotel prices paid fell 8%, making trips to top destinations in Thailand even more affordable

* Hotel accommodation prices paid worldwide rose by just 1%

The latest Hotel Price Index (HPI) from Hotels. co shows that average prices paid* per night for hotel accommodation in Thailand fell 8% in 2015 as compared to 2014, due partly to Thailand’s low inflation rate and lower global oil prices. The global Index sat at 114 for 2015 and is closing the gap on the previous peak of 117 in 2007, the year before the global economic crisis.

According to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the number of travelers to Thailand surged in 2015. Visitor arrivals increased by 20.4% over 2014, totaling 29.8 million, driven by demand from the Chinese market. The 8% fall in hotel prices paid in Thailand was good news for travelers who found even more affordable rates at most destinations. Travelers to cities outside of Thailand also saw a decrease in prices per room, per night, such as in Kuala Lumpur by 20% to 2,087 THB, Seoul by 19% to 3,232 THB, Bali by 19% to 2,790 THB, Singapore by 18% to 4,527 THB and Taipei by 13% to 3,279 THB.

Travelers paid less in 95% of Thai destinations

Hotel prices paid in 95% of Thai cities dropped in the Hotels.com HPI report for 2015. What the travelers to and within Thailand paid per night was 2,968 THB, down from 3,226 THB in 2014. Among Thai cities analyzed in the HPI, Kanchanaburi and Koh Samet saw the highest declines at 39%. The only destinations where travelers experienced an increase were Pranburi and Koh Ngai, by 7% to 5,529 THB and 5% to 3,473 THB, respectively. Hotel accommodation in popular destinations such as Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Songkla and Surat Thani proved to be competitively affordable with average prices paid ranging from 810 THB to 1,720 THB per room per night. Top destinations for foreign visitors also saw a drop, as seen in Phuket by 14% to 2,754 THB, while Pattaya and Chiang Mai dropped by 9% to 2,110 THB and 8% to 2,170 THB, respectively.
