Trat kicks off its annual fruit festival

TRAT, 22 May 2014  — The eastern province of Trat has kicked off its annual fruit festival to promote local products and tourism.

A large number of local residents and tourists flocked to Ban Tha Jot check point in Khao Saming district to participate in the opening ceremony of the Sweet Rakam (zalacca) Day, Fruits and Good Staff of Trat Festival, on Wednesday.

The governor, Benjawan Arnprueng said the event has been held every year to promote sales of local fruits and other products and to attract visitors to Trat.

Besides sweet zalacca, other fruits sold in the event are durian, longkong, pineapple, rambutan and mangosteen. Visitors will be able to shop those fruits and taste local food while enjoying various types of contests such as fruits, cockfighting and the Thai ridgeback dog. The festival will continue until May 25.
