BANGKOK, Nov 15 — The Transfer Baggage Terminal (TBT) service at Savarnabhumi International Airport has started operation with the aim of facilitating passengers on transferring flight, said the airport director Prapon Pattamakitsakul.

On average there are 13,000 pieces of baggage per day for passengers departing Bangkok for overseas, said Mr Prapon, adding that the TBT, which has started operation since November 1, could help reduce time on transferring luggage from one aircraft to one hour from 1:15 hours before.

He said the new service could help the airport compete with other global international airports.

The two-storey TBT building is situated above the South Airside Tunnel and has the total area of approximately 12,550 square metres.

The building shares a similar baggage transferring system as the airport’s Main Terminal Building, as it has luggage X-ray scanning system and other facilities while the baggage inspection room has the capacity to transport 66 pieces of luggage per minute for passenger transit flights.
