BANGKOK, 14 June 2013 According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Qatar has lifted an import ban on Thai poultry products, effective since June 10.

During her official visit to the gulf state last month, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra reached the agreement with her Qatari counterpart.

Qatar imposed a ban on imports of Thai chicken meat in 2003 after the outbreak of the Avian Influenza in Thailand. The World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) has confirmed that no avian flu virus was found in Thailand for more than a year.

Chickens are generally prepared through strict halal procedures in order to meet the Middle Eastern country’s import standards.
