BANGKOK, Oct 12 – Kasikorn Research Centre (KRC) estimates that this month’s upcoming nine-day vegetarian festival will generate around Bt5.6 billion in the resort island of Phuket.

The Oct 15-23 festival in Phuket is one of the prime venues in the country to hold a grand event, attracting both Thai and foreign tourists.

During the vegetarian period, the number of travellers is expected by the centre to reach around 270,000, an increase of 16.4 per cent year-on-year.

The festival in other parts of the country, particular in main tourist destinations, will boost tourism figures year-end totals, according to the centre, which will result in more lively tourism choices on the buffet table of Thai events and attractions offered to tourists.
