New business registrations up 12% in Aug

BANGKOK, 5 September 2011 – The Department of Business Development (DBD) has reported a 12 percent year-on-year increase in the volume of new business registrations in August 2011.

Deputy Commerce Minister Siriwat Kajornprasart disclosed that there were a total of 5,014 new businesses registered within August this year, rising by 12 percent or 567 entities, compared to the same month last year. The capital registered by the businesses was worth altogether 45.54 billion THB. The three most common categories of businesses were construction with 496 entities, entertainment with 453 entities and real estate with 276 entities.

As for business cancellations, the figure increased by 154 percent or 731 entities from the same period last year.

At present, limited partnerships, general partnerships and companies limited in Thailand number around 502,482 while the number of public companies limited stands at 912.
