NCPO observes electricity security in South

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, June 16 — National Council for Peace and Order Deputy Chief Prachin Chantong travelled to southern region to observe power plants’ operation and ensure energy security in the region.

Air Chief Marshal  Prachin, in charge of the Ministry of Energy, and his entourage went Monday to the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat on a C130 aircraft to visit the Khanom Power Plant and Gas Separation Plant and a private biogas power plant.

The field visit was part of the response to cope with the temporary gas supply disruption from the Malaysia-Thailand Joint Development Area – JDA-A18 well for maintenance by PTT Pcl (PTT) from June 13-July 10, 2014 to maintain electricity security in 14 southern Thai provinces

According to the report, the maximum power usage in the Thai south reached 2,286 megawatts on Sunday.

After the Chana Power Plant in Songkhla province stopped generating electricity Friday, Thailand bought 142 megawatts of electrical power daily from Malaysia, besides providing the power from the central region and other operating power plants in the south.
