NBTC to hold 4G auction

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) will auction 25 megahertz of bandwidth on the 1800-MHz spectrum for the country’s first fourth-generation (4G) sale on August 28th.

According to NBTC Secretary General Takorn Tantasith, a recent meeting of the national telecom regulator has agreed that the principle and the procedure of the auction for 1800-MHz spectrum be announced in the government gazette. The auction procedure will commence on August 28th which is when bidders will be allowed to submit their envelopes.

The reserve price for an 1800-MHz license is 15.9 billion baht, which is an increase from 13.9 billion. The reserve price represents 80% of the estimated real spectrum value.

The duration of a license’s term is 18 years, according to the secretary general, adding that winners of the licenses will be required to roll out their networks to cover half of the population within eight years.
