BANGKOK, 27 February 2013 The Mae Moh Power Plant in Lampang province is set to produce power from its 10 generating units to the full capacity this April, when Myanmar temporarily stops distributing natural gas to Thailand for pipeline maintenance.

Assistant Governor for Unit 2 of the Mae Moh Power Plant Somyos Theravongsakul affirmed that the power plant was ready to send electricity to any areas experiencing power outages, both in the North and elsewhere in the country, from 5-14 April 2013 when Myanmar is scheduled to repair its gas pipelines. Mr Somyos said he had instructed staff from the maintenance department to urgently check electronic equipment of the ten generating units to ensure that they operated efficiently.

Among the ten generating units, the lignite ones will generate electricity at their full capacity of 2,400 megawatts around the clock. Therefore, the assistant governor assured the public of sufficient power supply and called on them not to worry.

Despite his assurance, Mr Somyos asked for cooperation from all sectors in using power as sparingly as possible in a bid to help save the nation’s electricity, which has to be generated from fossil fuels.
