Management of a Pattaya community venture to produce organic fertilizer will be replaced after six months of losing money.

Leaders of the Pattaya Organic Fertilizer Manufacturing Community Enterprise met with city legal chief Sretapol Boonsawat and heads of the Environment and Social Welfare departments Jan. 18 to review financial results for the first half year.

The enterprise reported a loss for the period due to excessive labor expenses and an inability to meet demand due to a shortage of raw materials and a lack of skills among its workforce.

The venture was started to help Pattaya residents produce organic fertilizer, mixing planting soil, organic liquid fertilizer, water treatment, odor removal products and microbial pesticide as a way to generate local income.

The governing board, faced earlier with losses, tried to cut expenses, to no avail. The management of the enterprise will now be replaced with professionals and government officials brought in to try to salvage the operation.
