BANGKOK, 16 October 2013 – Ms. Piyaman Techapaiboon, President of the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT), revealed that a survey of 2,000 Thai tourists showed the additional holiday on December 30, added to this year’s New Year’s vacation, may see an increase of 19% of Thai travelers.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand is now working hard to promote and publicize local tourist destinations to prompt more Thais to travel within Thailand. It is expected that this year’s tourism cash flow from domestic travelers would reach 24 billion baht.

Other popular tourist destinations in Asia forecast to have mass inflows of travelers include Japan and South Korea. However, as a result of its recent quality control law in tourism, China will see a decrease in travelers this year; less Thais will be traveling to China as well.

Overall, the tourism industry in the Kingdom has seen a 20% increase. Revenue this year is expected to be 250 billion baht compared to the 450 billion of the previous year due to Thais becoming more economical during their travels.
