BANGKOK, 29 April 2014  – According to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), the Thai Industries Sentiment Index (TISI) stood at 84.7 points in March, the lowest in 5 years.

Mr. Supan Mongkolsuthee, the newly-appointed FTI chairman, has revealed that the ongoing political stalemate has been affecting the country’s economy, causing domestic consumption to slow down while production costs are rising higher and higher. As a result, the industrial sentiment index in the third month of 2014 dropped to 84.7 points, which represented the lowest number in almost 5 years.

He also noted that the prolonged political conflict has raised concerns among the Thai entrepreneurs, claiming that the conflict which seems to be unending would seriously impair their competitiveness especially when the ASEAN Economic Community is finally formed.

Lastly, the president indicated that all relevant agencies should work together to end this conflict and find ways to trigger the economy.
