BANGKOK, 13 June 2012  - The Department of Industrial Works (DIW) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with textile dyeing factories on cooperation on a model project for wastewater management.

DIW’s Industrial Cluster 2 Bureau Director Somsak Jantararoungtong has signed an MOU with 10 textile bleaching, dyeing and printing factories, to carry out a model project for wastewater management.

According to Mr. Somsak, the model project will set an example of effective wastewater management through the cooperation of nearby communities. Wastewater released from factories will be measured according to the CSR-DIW and the ISO 26000 standards. Meanwhile, community members will have a chance to acquire more knowledge and understanding of laws relating to industrial factories and wastewater management. After a period of 8 months, the performance of the participating factories will be used in establishing a wastewater management guideline for other factories.

The industrial sector is responsible for 15% of the country's overall wastewater release. The major sources of wastewater are the community and agriculture.
