BANGKOK, 3 December 2013 “Hom Mali” rice can now be purchased at Suvarnabhumi International Airport and will be offered at other airports across Thailand.

Speaking after presiding over the opening ceremony of a rice booth in Suvarnabhumi, Deputy Commerce Minister Yanyong Phuangrach said despite the fact that Thailand is not a big country, it ranks number 11 among the world’s top food exporters, adding Thai food exports last year were worth 25 billion US dollars, mainly from exports of “Hom Mali” and other rice.

He also expressed his keen interest in promoting the “Hom Mali” rice as must-buy souvenirs for foreign tourists, just like Chinese tea and Korean ginseng. According to him, the move is in line with the government’s intention to promote Thailand as the world’s kitchen and make the country internationally known for its genuine rice product.

The rice booth at Suvarnabhumi Airport will be opened until the end of February next year. The deputy minister went on to say that similar booths selling “Hom Mali” rice will soon be opened at other airports across Thailand, adding that there is also an idea to grant passengers buying “Hom Mali” rice extra baggage allowance.
