BANGKOK, 19 September 2013 The Commerce Ministry is trying to incorporate more fresh markets into its Blue Flag campaign, in a bid to ease consumers’ burden on the rising cost of living.

The Department of Internal Trade (DIT) on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding with representatives from 12 fresh markets in Bangkok in a major bid to maintain prices of raw materials used in ready-to-eat meals.

Under the MoU, participating vendors are to provide such commodity goods as pork, chicken, eggs, vegetables, and condiments at the lowest possible price to Blue Flag food shops, in order to enable the latter to sell food at old prices. The DIT affirmed that residents can still purchase ready to eat meals at a starting price range of 25-30 baht at any Blue Flag shops.

The campaign will be put on a trial basis for one month, after which evaluation will be made to determine if further intervention is needed.

The markets participating in this campaign include Min Buri, Ying Charoen, Si Mum Muang, Klong Toey, Bang Yai, Devarach, Prachanivet, Ratchadapisek, Arun-Amarin, Thon Buri, Bang Kapi, and Nong Jok.
