BANGKOK, 2 September 2012 - Ms. Nantawan Sakuntanaga, Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, revealed that the department is speeding up the development of the potential of trade routes, as well as opportunities for trade and investment expansion, between Thailand and three countries, namely Laos, Vietnam, and China. Furthermore, the department is laying down guidelines to exploit the logistic connectivity of these routes throughout the region.

The department is inspecting the pertinent trade routes from August 28 to September 2. Along the routes, the department also sought discussion with local authorities to seek their cooperation in supporting Thai trade and investment expansion. The department also met with Thai businesspeople in foreign nations to hear their obstacles in conducting the business. This is also part of the efforts to prepare Thai businesses for the AEC in 2015. Ms. Nantawan said although the world economy has slowed down, Asean nations can survive by relying more on the market within the Asean region itself.
