Department of Business Development celebrates 9th decade

BANGKOK, 17 January 2013 The Department of Business Development (DBD) has celebrated its 9th decade anniversary, with an aim to push Thai businesses to the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom presided over the DBD celebrations. He said from now on the department should focus on upgrading Thai businesses for the AEC, which will be established in 2015.

According to Mr Boonsong, services under the DBD will be electronic-based, using office automation and IT technology such as e-filing to provide financial service through electronic system. Database will be shared with other government agencies. ASEAN Fast Track Lane will be set up to provide faster service to Thai and foreign entrepreneurs.

The minister stated that Thai businesses will be uplifted to achieve good governance and transparency to boost confidence among investors. He said the department will also strictly tackle nominee companies, which have registered under Thai names but are practically owned by foreigners. Risk areas in Pattaya, Hua Hin, Phuket, and Koh Samui will be strictly monitored to prevent this practice.
