BANGKOK, 8 May 2013 The Ministry of Commerce will speed up the release of rice from its stockpile in light of the impact of the appreciating baht on rice export..

According to Permanent secretary for Commerce Ministry Vatchari Vimooktayon, the Ministry is currently devising an urgent plan to export more rice under the government-to-government (G2G) contracts.

Higher prices of rice as a result of the baht appreciation impedes Thailand’s exporters’ competitiveness.

In addition to seeking new export market, the ministry will adjust its strategy by emphasizing on selling a large volume of rice and offering new attractive deals to buyers. Currently, Africa expresses its interest in purchasing Thai rice.
