Industry Minister Uttama Savanayana said last week that the Lazada Group, which is owned by Alibaba Group Holdings Ltd., has expressed its interest in building an e-commerce park in the yet to-be-established Eastern Economic Corridor. The ECC project is part of the enhancement of the current Eastern Seaboard.

Expected to be finished in three years, the e-commerce park will serve as a platform for trading companies to conduct business, in addition to its secondary goal which is to enhance the potential of small and medium sized firms in the area. He said the group also expressed its willingness to nurture local businesses, sharing experience and teaching them about e-commerce.

The ECC board will convene a meeting on April 5th at U-Tapao International Airport and the Ministry of Industry is planning to propose five development projects to the board members. The meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha. (NNT)
