Sweet dreams aren’t made of this

Whether he was sleeping off a bender at one of the many nearby bars or homeless, the foreign man snoozing outside the former public library on Soi 6 Feb. 4 wasn’t getting the attention from authorities he deserved.

Whether they’re one of the many homeless Thais or down-on-their-luck foreign nationals, the city’s police and social services are paid to take care of people sleeping on the street. This man was ignored not only by passersby but by authorities, too.

Homeless people of any nationality mar Pattaya’s image. For the good of the disadvantaged, as well as tourism, public officials paid to care for the area’s citizens need to do more.
