A drainage grate on Soi Khao Talo has become an accident waiting to happen after heavy rain and flooding wore away its supports.
Residents complained July 27 that five covers are worn out, falling down about 20 centimeters, creating real hazards for motorbike drivers.
They said the grates have been neglected and unmaintained for a long time and city hall has ignored their pleas for repairs.
Boonmee Songtham, a food vendor on Soi Khao Talo, said she always expects to see an accident as she is near the road and people try to avoid the deep drainage holes on their motorbikes. She has seen quite a few so far in recent months but most people are aware of the hazard.
Not seeing the danger ahead, this rider drove right into the hole and could have lost control of his motorbike.
Most residents in the area said that the drainage caps have been like this since the road was first built. Authorities then resurface the road often and fill the holes, but don’t realize that the caps need to be lifted as well.
The rain and heavy vehicles have been causing the holes to get worse and they are fed up with complaining. The matter should be attended before somebody gets into a serious accident.
