A new chapter in is set to open in the
Thailand polo calendar with the kick off of ‘Queen’s Cup Pink Polo’, the
first-ever woman’s polo tournament in the Kingdom being held to raise
awareness of breast cancer. The mission behind Pink Polo is to raise funds
to provide lifesaving access to care at the King Chulalongkorn hospital’s
Queen Sirikit Center for Breast Cancer research and treatment.
The charity game is being organized by Nunthinee Tanner, the managing
director of LBG Limited, an importer and distributor for ESCADA luxurious
fashion brand in Thailand as the game’s main sponsor and chairman of the
‘Pink Polo’ organizing committee. The event will take place at the Thai Polo
& Equestrian Club in Pattaya this coming Sunday, March 1 starting at 2 p.m.
For the first time the crowd, including real men, will be encouraged to wear
pink costume to show their support in the fight against breast cancer.
Nunthinee said, “We are excited to organize this charity activity for a life
changing initiative, as this one-of-a-kind fundraising game gets into the
spirit to save lives and not only raise more money but also awareness of
breast cancer. The women’s polo match between the Escada team and the Thai
Polo team will see players come from many countries to take part, including
Singapore, Malaysia and Germany. The winning team will receive a cup
generously donated by HM the Queen. The Pink Polo is also practically the
final match for Thai polo season.”
Surrounded by a beautiful natural environment and a club house and booths
decked out in pink decorations, the Thai Polo & Equestrian Club in Pattaya
will be a great place to bring the family on Sunday for a picnic and to
watch some top class polo. Kids can learn how to play polo, hit a ball and
swing the stick, whilst others can just enjoy the pony riding. Another
highlight at the event will be the ‘Pink Collection’ fashion show on
horseback from renowned luxury fashion houses by Escada, Burberry, La Perla
and Lamatina. And lest we forget, the traditional divot stomping will take
place at half-time where guests can wander all over the field to stomp down
the torn up turf and to meet great people or even to say hello to the
players.
