Pattaya Players presents ‘A Dickens Christmas Carol’

Something’s cooking up at the Moore Bar & Grill

It was a proud moment on Monday, November 24, as Moore Bar & Grill hosted the launch of a new cook book, “Our International Secrets”. The recipes in this very special book were compiled by the Rayong Ladies Circle, Burapha Ladies Community and Pattaya International Ladies Club, along with a selection of local restaurants.

The project was started back in 2004 by Dolores Carr Wickes, who has been instrumental in the Rayong housing projects in Ban Chang. After having seen the difference a simple house can make to an elderly person’s life, Dolores decided to build some more. With the generosity of friends and relatives back in Ireland and the Mayor of Ban Chang, Dr Atithep who provided municipal land, twelve houses were built.
Seeing this example, businessman, Hugh Green donated funds for a further six houses to be built. The idea of the cook book was to raise funds for the Muu Baan Eire and Muu Baan Hugh Green housing projects. Dolores then left Thailand to accompany her husband to China.
The Rayong Ladies decided there was no reason for the cook book not to continue. It seemed that the Burapha Ladies Community had a similar idea of introducing a cook book for charity. They joined forces two years ago in this venture and it did not stop there, they approached Pattaya International Ladies Club and local restaurants. Artist, Ingrid Van Der Heyden provided the artwork for the front cover and after two years of collecting recipes and editing, the cook book came to life.
Moore Bar & Grill laid on a great spread for the guests of the launch. Lyne Lowen of the Rayong Ladies Circle explained how the book came into existence and Somsak Tanruengsri, General Manager of the Marriott received the honour of buying the first copy.
The book includes over 300 recipes and is truly an amazing example of what can be achieved when everyone in the community works together. The recipes are from all around the world and even have a section for children who would like to try their hand at cooking.
Before the launch, 300 copies had already been sold. The book costs 600 baht and is not available in the shops. For more information on how to purchase a copy, contact Kavita on kavitalamba@hotmail.com.
