Thailand awaits reply from JBIC on loan request

The Thai government is still awaiting a reply from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) on its request for loans to finance construction of two new electric train lines designed for easing traffic congestion, said Finance Minister Chalongphob Sussangkarn last week.
Mr. Chalongphob said it is likely that the government would find lending sources in the country to finance the construction of the red route of the electric train lines from Taling Chan to Bang Sue.
The government has requested loans from JBIC to finance construction of the purple route from Bang Yai in Nonthaburi province to Bang Sue and it is anticipated that it would receive the reply this week, he said.
If JBIC declines to extend loans for the projects, then the government may have to borrow from domestic financial institutions, possible now because of massive liquidity in the local market, he said.
Other possible lending sources could be China, which has agreed to provide a maximum loan of US$400 million to Thailand as well as from the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, Mr. Chalongphob added. (TNA)

NGV bus gets on board for ANGVA 2007

Event organizers welcome the representatives of Foton Bus Thailand to the ANGVA 2007 exhibition to be held 27-29 November in Bangkok.

Organizers of this month’s ANGVA 2007, a major conference and exhibition for the natural gas vehicle industry, have welcomed the decision by Foton Bus Thailand Co., Ltd. to launch their natural gas powered buses at the show and to become a key sponsor at the event.
According to organizers, the Foton buses, manufactured in China, will present increased opportunities for bus operators in Thailand and elsewhere to have OEM natural gas buses in their fleets. The increasing availability of OEM natural gas buses, such as those supplied by Foton, will lead to cleaner air and improved public transport services for Thailand’s citizens, and increased energy independence for the nation.
With ANGVA 2007 expected to attract as many as 1,000 conference delegates, and 4,000 exhibition visitors from around the world, Foton are using this event to launch their buses in Thailand, with other markets to follow. Foton Bus Thailand is the first of a series of international subsidiaries being set up to supply the buses to worldwide markets.
Conference organizers, NGV Network, say the move by Foton to make the buses available in Thailand reflects the growing interest in natural gas vehicles (NGVs) throughout the world.
“There are more than 7 million natural gas vehicles worldwide, and numbers are increasing by more than 30% each year”, says Managing Director, Brett Jarman. “Asian nations are becoming the world leaders, increasing NGV numbers by an average 50% per year over the past 5 years.”
He said the sponsorship shows the seriousness of Foton’s commitment to bringing their product to market and would position them as leaders in the industry.
ANGVA 2007, to be held in Bangkok from 27-29 November, will be the 2nd Asia-Pacific showcase for the latest technology and applications for the region’s rapidly expanding development of Natural Gas Vehicles. The event is hosted by the Thai Association for Natural Gas Vehicles (TANGV) and is supported by the PTT Plc and the Asian Natural Gas Vehicle Association (ANGVA) based in Malaysia.
