The Korea Tourism Organization of Thailand on September 21 in cooperation with Asian China Airline and Sun Moon Tour and Travel staged Korea Night 2006 at the Dusit Resort Pattaya, an evening designed to build contacts and relationships within the travel industry.

The organization’s marketing manager, Punmate na Ranong, said that in addition to independent travelers, incentives groups and education visits were proving to be important sectors of the industry.
Punmate said that Korea has many joint venture interests in Thailand, with a heavy concentration of Korean businesses and expatriates along the Eastern Seaboard. He also said that Korea’s many festivals and large number of industrial and trade shows were increasingly attractive to Thai visitors.
Currently, around 60,000 to 70,000 Thai tourists visit Korea each year.


Sikhs present dinner and donation to elderly at Ban Banglamung

The Thai Sikh Pattaya Association, represented by Prithipal S Chawla, Satpal S Chawla, Harprit Singh Grover, Manjit Singh, Gurcharnjit Singh and Satnam S Bedi on September 22 offered dinner to senior citizens at the Ban Banglamung Social Welfare Development Center for the Elderly, and in addition made a donation of funds.

Ban Banglamung currently takes care of 303 elderly people, consisting of 125 men and 178 women. The seniors are given guidance and support in using their time productively, ensuring that they remain alert and active. Much of their time is devoted to producing handicrafts and homemade goods such as hand towels, pillows and cushions, and artificial flowers. Thai herbal products are also prepared there.
Satnam S Bedi said that the Thai Sikh Pattaya Association was established to help society and each month visits one of the city’s support homes, such as the recent visit to the Banglamung Home for Boys.
The association donated 21,150 baht to Ban Banglamung, and presented each of the seniors with a gift of 50 baht, together with preparing the dinner.

September 10 saw three big events at St Niklaus Church, with the annual church day, the official opening of the exhibition hall with sacral pictures and statuettes, and the confirmation of 30 young children performed by Bishop Lawrence Thienchai.
First the exhibition hall was blessed by the bishop with Father Paiboon and many other clerics attending. After the bishop celebrated Mass, 30 children, dressed in pure white and with the girls wearing flowers in their hair received his blessings, and he took their confirmation oath to be good members of the Catholic Church.
Food was brought food in baskets to be blessed and a group of little girls from the orphanage strewed flowers around the altar.
After the ceremonies everyone gathered in the garden to enjoy a hearty meal and spend a joyful time together.

The Salsa Amante Latin Dance Studio & Cantina celebrated its first anniversary on September 24, with Nick Verbeek and Jitrapun (Sam) Moore welcoming guests, students and close friends.
All of the students seemed to be of one mind, saying that Sam and Nick are very good dance instructors and that their classes are fun and easy to understand. Sam and Nick jointly blew out the candles on the birthday cake.
In addition to the salsa, other dance styles such as the merengue and bachata are taught. There is a basic class where anyone can come, in groups or alone, and learn to dance.

Jomtien bartender wins best in the east

A young bartender from Jomtien won the Best Eastern Bartender of 2006 award, and will further participate in the “Asian Bartender Championship of 2006” at the end of this year. A young lass from Sriracha won 1st place in the Miss Bartender 2006 contest.

Chalisa Piewkhao from City Sriracha Hotel won top honors with her flashy dance routine and bright pink, blue and purple costume.
The Eastern Bartender and Miss Bartender 2006 contests took place on September 13 at the Dusit Resort Hotel in Pattaya. 20 teams took part in the competition, which was held to encourage people in the hotel industry to improve their skills and create a new drink. The drink will be featured in Pattaya tourism promotions.
The judges, meanwhile, had the onerous task of tasting all the new cocktails (hic), and judging the contestants on their performances. When all was done, Pithek Taschanda from Jomtien Palm Beach Hotel won the Eastern bartender contest. He received 100,000 baht and a trophy.
Hard Rock Hotel finished in 2nd, whilst hosts Dusit Resort placed 3rd.
In the Miss Bartender contest, Chalisa Piewkhao from City Sriracha Hotel won top honors with her flashy dance routine and bright pink, blue and purple Rio Carnival-like costume.

Pithek Taschanda from Jomtien Palm Beach Hotel won the Eastern bartender contest.
Woodland Resort finished in 2nd place, and in 3rd place was the Dusit Resort Hotel in Pattaya.
The winner of the other competitions were as follows: Dusit Resort Pattaya won the canapé contest and the vegetable and fruit carving contest; Montien Hotel Pattaya won the wedding cake decoration contest; Jomtien Palm Beach Hotel won the table skirting contest (teams of 2 people) and the buffet table contest (teams of 2 people); and Long Beach Garden Hotel & Spa won the flower decoration contest.
The Thai Hotel Association Eastern Seaboard organized the event in cooperation with Pattaya Business and Tourism Association, Pattaya Hotel Club, and Eastern Food and Beverage Club.
