TAT penetrates Japanese school market

Thailand, for the first time, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Japanese tour companies to receive Japanese students as special guests on their educational trip to Thailand from the year-end of 2002.

Japanese student groups will become one of the major targets of TAT with the number of 160,000 students traveling overseas each year due to Japanese government’s policy that encourages secondary school students to take a trip outside the country.

Japan Tourist Bureau Corporation (JTB) and Kinki Nippon Tourist (KNT) are the tour agencies providing the services to Japanese schools.

Juthamas Siriwan, TAT governor said that JTB and KNT consider Thailand as a potential tourist destination because of its popularity among Japanese people and its readiness to cater for the large groups of Japanese pupils.

In accordance with the MOU, TAT will cooperate with the two travel companies to arrange activities to give information about Thailand to the targeted groups such as teacher and parent associations. Moreover, TAT will facilitate Japanese schools in handling immigration and customs procedures for their students.

Juthaporn Rerngron-asa, TAT marketing promotion department director, said that in 2001, only around 10,000 Japanese students visited Thailand. The figure is considered diminutive compared to 80,000-100,000 Japanese students visiting China and Korea each year.

The MOU will lead to the collaboration between TAT and Japan travel companies to organize overseas tours for Japanese high school students. Four hundred students from Mutsubara School will be the first group going on excursion to Thailand in December 2002 after the signing of the MOU. Ayutthaya, Pattaya, and Nakhon Ratchasima will be the destinations for the first launched project. (TNA)

An impressive pile of donations made to the Khao Cheechan School.

Pattaya radio station, Sunshine Radio 107.75 MHz, recently organized a charitable activity with great support from many benevolent program listeners.

Members join in the activities.

Since 1998 Sunshine Radio’s management team has been acting as middleman by passing donated items from listeners to school students at various locations in Chonburi Province who are in desperate need of necessities.

This year 3 schools were the beneficiaries of generous donations. Sunshine Radio’s management team along with more than 100 station listeners visited Wat Nongkla School, Ban Khao Tabaek School, and Ban Khao Cheechan School in the Sattahip and Sriracha area.

Students were presented with items collected from people in Pattaya and left at the various locations including V.C. Spots Production, Big C, and Lotus hypermarkets.

Free lunches were served to the youngsters. Musical shows plus other fun activities were organized to put big smiles on their faces.

Happy faces all around.

The charitable Smiling Sun project is an effective and down to earth campaign geared to help the needy, especially pupils at the secondary level. All donated items were intended to make children’s lives more comfortable and improve their standard of living.

Parents enjoy watching their children have all the fun.

The headmaster of the school gratefully receives a donation from the organizers of the event.
