Pattaya’s mayor, Pairat Suttithamrongsawat, presided over the opening of a fun fair going on now at the Royal Garden Plaza titled “Country & Western”. The fair is being hosted by the managing director of Royal Garden Plaza Pattaya, Supadit Maneerattanajaratsri in cooperation with Born 2B Organizer Co. Ltd. and the Cowboy-Indian Circle of Thailand.

The event started on July 23rd at the Spring Court and runs until August 7th.

An atmosphere of an old American cow town is being presented with more than 100 cowboys, cowgirls and American Indians in western gear walking around town.

Entertainment also features country & western music, Red Indian dancing around a campfire, and performances straight out of western movies such as quick-draw gun-slinging and lasso techniques. Visitors can join the activities and buy goods and souvenirs from the western shop at the fair.

On Saturday and Sunday, special activities will provide real old-fashioned country & western music for purists by The Old Timer Band.

There will be a Miss Cowgirl and Mr. Cowboy contest. Miss Cowgirl must be a “woman of the 2nd category”. The winners will receive a trophy from Mayor Pairat Suttithamrongsawat along with 10,000 baht cash and other prizes. The final contest of Miss Cowgirl and Mr. Cowboy will be judged on August 3rd and 4th.

PGF 2002’s Boyz Town Street Party raises 217,000 baht

The Pattaya Gay Festival 2002 had a very successful event with the Red, White and Blue Street Party in Boyz Town on the 4th of July. Well over 200 people turned out for a night of fun, frolic, shows and fund raising.

Over 217,000 baht was raised for the PGF Charities on that night. With the low season in full swing, the PGF Committee was especially pleased with both the turnout and funds raised.

The PGF gives special thanks and kudos to David Kerridge of My Life for Happiness Bar in Boyz Town who gave a personal donation of 100,000 baht, which accounted for almost half of the total funds raised on that night.

David Kerridge donated 100,000 baht to the PGF Charities.

Meanwhile, PGF 2002 recently donated US$1,000 (42,000 baht) to the Rotary Club of Jomtien Pattaya’s “10,000 bikes” Project, a worthwhile project to supply schools in Thailand with bikes for children who cannot afford them and have to make their way to school barefoot over several kilometers.

The next PGF 2002 event will take place on Sunday August 4th at Le Cafe Royale, on Pattayaland 3 from 8:00 p.m. Tickets are available at Le Cafe Royale. Admission is 750 baht (200 baht to go to the PGF Charities). Tickets include a buffet of imported cheeses and pโt้s as well as two drinks. Everyone is welcome. An up to date schedule of all PGF events is available on the PGF Web Site at: www.pattayagayfestival.com

Jesters gearing up for the 2002 Children’s Fair at Diana Driving Range

Come one, come all and hold on to your hats for the 2002 Jesters’ Children’s Fair to be held on Sunday, September 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Diana Driving Range. This year’s event promises to have something for everyone.

Barnie Biker will be up for grabs in the year's Fair raffle, always a hightlight of the event.

The past three events were huge successes, held at the Royal Cliff Beach Resort, Amari Orchid Resort and Siam Bayshore Resort in 1999, 2000 and 2001 respectively. This year the Diana Group is generously providing the entire Diana Driving Range facility to stage the fair and keep everyone in the swing of things.

The fair events include plenty of new and exciting games and prizes for the kids. Horseshoe Point Resort and Country Club will be introducing kid’s pony rides at this year’s fair and numerous schools will participate by providing children’s entertainment, including puppet shows and face painting. In addition, there will be live bands, famous “super secret” surprise entertainers, clowns distributing brightly colored balloons, a climbing wall, the ever-popular bouncy castle, and a superb variety of your favorite foods. The Fair will also have unique handicraft vendors from throughout Southeast Asia displaying their wares.

Let’s not forget about the Children’s Raffle with loads of prizes and this year’s action-packed showstopper: the Tug ‘O’ War.

All fair proceeds go to the Fountain of Life and selected charities, which helps under-privileged children in the local area. So don’t forget to mark the date on your calendars, Sunday September 15.

Telecommunications discussed at this month’s German language business club meeting

Telecommunications was the topic of discussion at the German-speaking Eastern Seaboard Business Club monthly meeting at the Royal Wing on July 27. Walter Kretschmar, moderator of this month’s meeting, had the pleasure of welcoming a very interesting guest speaker, Matthias Goertz, former business advisor to Booz Allen and now with his own firm.

Matthias knows a lot about business in foreign countries. Before he came to Thailand, he studied and worked in many countries, including the United States.

The German-speaking Eastern Seaboard Business Club met at the Royal Wing for their monthly meeting on July 27.

His subject was the telecommunications market in Thailand, and he provided the meeting with many interesting facts and figures about the current telecommunications climate in Thailand. His main theme was that the market in Thailand is still very promising, and with the government leaning towards privatization, standards could improve. Foreign investors might also look forward to a more inviting investment climate in the telecommunications sector.

Svend Nelson, the general manager of WebControl, was the meeting’s second guest speaker, and he explained the pros of telecommunication via Internet.

Members at the meeting had plenty of praise for Nick Bauer, resident manager of the Royal Wing, and his team who prepared a delicious lunch, and the first class service for which the Royal Cliff Beach Resort is renowned.
