Jesters - Chonburi Siam Steel Works Fair

Ploenchit Fair comes to Pattaya?

The Ploenchit Fair is one of the highlights of the Bangkok social calendar and many folk from Pattaya make the trip up to the capital for this event. However, a far thinking committee of Pattaya business people, Graham Macdonald (MBMG International), Kim Fletcher (Delaney’s) and Woody Underwood (Jesters - TQ Bar) have come up with an excellent idea for our very own Fair.

Following on from the very successful 1998 Jesters “Care for Kids” charity night, the group felt that this year there should be an opportunity for kids themselves to join in the fun. This was the start of the Fair idea.

Running the concept past a few others in the Pattaya scene, like Niel Poulsen of the Chonburi Siam Steel Works, Peter Malhotra, managing director of the Pattaya Mail and Jean-Fernand Wasser, executive vice-president of the Royal Cliff Beach Resort, the idea has turned into reality.

Pattaya is to have its own full-blown fair, to be held at the Royal Cliff Beach Resort with all the proceeds going to charity. It is called the “Jesters - Chonburi Siam Steel Works Fair” and will be on the 4th of September.

Preliminary planning is well underway and the Fair looks as if it will be one of the highlights of our calendar, too. The Pattaya Mail will have more details on this Fair soon. In the meantime, pencil in the date: Saturday 4th September!

Ban Chang to Pattaya Sponsored Bike Ride

Saturday September 4th 1999

Once again, as part of the Jesters Fountain of Life Charity drive, the Jesters (well, a few of them) and friends (hopefully loads) will be getting their legs over again (bicycles) and embarking on another Nappy Rash Ride.

Instead of the 200k ride last year, this year will be a tamer 40km ride from Ban Chang to Pattaya taking in the scenic route rather than the dead dog Sukhumvit route. The start point will be the Camel Bar in Ban Chang at 08:00 (Breakfast) with the riding starting at 09:00.

The ride will have maintenance back up teams in pickups as well as refreshments along the route to ensure the maximum number of finishers at the Royal Cliff Hotel, where the Kids’ Day will be occurring.

Currently, about 15 people of all shapes and sizes have signed up for the ride, and many more are welcome. Each rider is expected to be sponsored by anyone that will sponsor them, and sponsorship forms will be provided to all that sign up.

Last year the ride raised over B200,000, so this year, with the increased numbers, we’re expecting to surpass that.

So, to all those armchair sportsmen and women in Pattaya, drag yourselves out for a fun ride. It’s not a race, and some of Pattaya’s less fit people are already in training for it.

Contact Paul or Darren of the Jesters on 733239 or E mail at [email protected] for details, or Woody/Tom at TQ’s or Kim at Delaney’s.
