Amazing Pirate-Treasure Hunt

On Saturday May 2nd, the GSSDS (Golf of Siam Safe Diving Society) set sail with a fleet of four vessels, filled to the gunwales with ambitious treasure hunters, out to search for the long lost treasure of the notorious pirate, "Black Pete".
Mayor Pairat himself took part in the fun, cutting the ribbon at the opening ceremony and wishing all divers a ‘lucky treasure hunt’, officially sending the fleet out to the offshore islands to collect their booty.

Reaching the island where it was believed ‘Black Pete’ stashed his treasures away, there was no sight of the pirate or his vicious crew. Yet, as the divers prepared to start salvaging the treasure, already believing that victory was theirs, Royal Cliff’s ‘Hanuman", full sails set, appeared on the scene. Cindy Burbridge, former Miss Thailand World, Thai film stars Farung Chareeluk "Fawn", Oliver Pupart, Jittima ‘Jaime’ Brabbs and friends, all dressed in full pirate regalia, soon took command.
Even though the pirate crew of the VIP boat ‘Island Dream’ was ready to give them a battle, they surrendered fast in the presence of all that beauty. With hostilities averted, Bill Burbridge from Seafari Dive Shop signaled the start of the treasure hunt by firing off a flare.
After a long day of diving, all participants met in the evening at Henry’ J. Bean’s terrace to collect their precious treasure and enjoy the party.
Cindy Burbridge and Max distributed the prizes, which were donated by local and Bangkok businesses.
Jan and Steve O’Brian of Pattaya were the most successful treasure hunters, together collecting 18 prizes.
All buccaneers, pirates and members of GSSDS unanimously agreed that this treasure hunt was very successful. Several other events will soon be arranged in conjunction with the Amazing Thailand campaign.

The Great Divide

Baa’s Bums and Baypoint’s Bouncers tugged and tussled through a closely contested doubleheader at the weekly Pattaya Sports Club softball match on Sunday, May 3rd. Both teams came to play and in the end each could claim a victory.
The first game started with the Bouncers taking a three run lead in the top of the first behind the hard hitting of M. J. (Coffee) Jim, Mike (Mr. Ice) Berg, and Speakeasy Craig.
The Bums answered back with two in the bottom of the first with Harry Carey Darry and Craig (Top Gun) Lewis contributing key hits.
After the first inning, defense took over and the Bums’ Out of Gas Ed in left and Big George (of the Jungle) at first came up with some nice plays.
For the Bouncers, Aloha Tom at third and Garden State Mike at second anchored the dee.
Going into the bottom of the sixth, the Bouncers held onto a slim one run lead, but with the bases loaded and two outs, Alan (Y. B.) Baa doubled down the right field line, scoring two. Montreal (Uppa US) Robert followed with a long blast to left for a three run homer and an insurmountable lead, giving the Bums an eight to three victory.
The second game had the Bums grab an early three run lead, but were unable to mount much offense after that.
After being shut down for the first three innings, the Bouncers brought out the heavy timber in the fourth when Read Rite James belted a grand salami to tie the score at four.
The Bouncers added three in the fifth behind John (Baypoint) Bechtel’s four bagger to left. In the sixth, G’day David added a two run homer to seal the victory for the Bouncers, nine to four.

Willett and Bauman master Great Lake, while Davlin trots home to Stableford victory

PSC TAGGS Golf from the Hare House

Wednesday, April 29 - Great Lake Golf & Country Club
Pairs Scramble
1st: Dennis Willett and Carl Bauman, 70 Gross, 65.4 Net
2nd: Harry Riley and Russell Finch, 76 Gross, 68.4 Net
3rd: Stephen Beard and Ciano Glavina, 77 Gross, 69.6 Net
On a very windy day, the American team of Dennis Willett and Carl Bauman shot a very respectable 70 gross and a net 65 to take the TAGGS Pairs Scramble competition at Great Lake. This course doesn’t need any help playing long, but the wind combined with playing from the back tees made a couple of the par 4’s unreachable in two. "Power" golf was replaced by "thinking" golf and Dennis and Carl were the only team to come in under par.
In second place were Harry Riley and TAGGS newcomer Russell Finch, who shot a gross 76 for a net 68. One stoke back with a gross 77 and a net 69.6 were Stephen Beard and Ciano Glavina. Sorely missed were the popular team of Jimmy Lien and Jerry Little who took a wrong turn and played a very satisfactory pairs scramble by themselves at Pattaya Country Club. Both denied that this scenario would be the basis for the sequel to the movie Dumb and Dumber.

Friday, May 1 - Pattaya Country Club
Stableford
1st: Charlie Davlin, 44 points
2nd: Stephen Beard, 39 points
3rd: Anders Karlson, 38 points
If Charlie Davlin wanted to celebrate his recent purchase of The Moonshine on Soi Diamond, he certainly did it in style at Pattaya Country Club on Friday. Shooting a gross 75 off a 10.5 handicap, the American rolled in an amazing 44 Stableford points and walked away from the field. On a day when the clouds threatened heavy rain and the winds swirled like dervishes, only the excellent course conditions kept the scores from soaring up like weather balloons.
Englishman Stephen Beard continued his excellent form of late and brought home 39 points for second place. Anders Karlson of Sweden also played well and had 38 points for third place.
