Vegas Vigilantes and Baypoints Bouncers battled in a hotly contested doubleheader at the weekly Pattaya Sports Club softball competition on Sunday, March 22. The struggle ebbed and flowed like the tide resulting in a split on the day.
The Vigilantes opened the first game with a powerful offensive display that included a two run scoring triple by Alan (Y.B.) Baa and a four bagger by Mike (Mr. Ice) Berg producing six runs in all.
The Bouncers answered back on a three run homer by John (Baypoint) Bechtel in the first and a solo shot by Gday David in the second.
When Mr. Ice smacked his second homer of the game, driving in three in the top of the fourth, the Vigilantes looked unbeatable.
The Bouncers staged a rally in the sixth on hard hitting by Big Bear Craig, Harey Carey Darry, and M. J. (Coffee) Jim and scored four. Only a terrific catch by Billy Blooper in right for the Vigilantes prevented additional runs from scoring, and the Vigilantes were able to prevail 13 to 9.
The second game started slowly and was tied at one going into the fourth when the Bouncers scored four with Gday David smacking another homer and playing sparkling defense.
The Vigilantes put up three in their half of the fourth on a homer by Alan (Leaving) Vegas, keeping the score close.
In the sixth, the Bouncers broke the game open with seven runs behind the hard hitting of Gordon (Suspension) Bridges and Dick (The Trick) Cagg.
The Vigilantes staged a minor comeback but could not overcome the Bouncers formidable offense and fell fourteen to seven.

With other major prizes and some special sponsored prizes from Classic Tailors, the whole evening brought to an excellent climax a two week event which was an undoubted success.
The Asean Explorer Open is scheduled to become a regular event and it is hoped to attract an ever growing band of holiday golfers. Of course those living locally are welcome to join the party next year.
Nick Hurn asked that particular thanks be extended to Turismo Thai, Terry Dalton and the staff at the Carlton Hotel for making everything run so smoothly.
Within the tournament a special match between Alderney Golf Club in the Channel Islands and Wyke Green near Heathrow was won by Wyke Green; the Scots lost their challenge against the English and it is expected that a form of Ryder Cup style challenge will be introduced next year.
